39. Kawaii

"Shut up already."

"But it's soooo KAWAII."

Amber peered over the edge of the hard-cover novel she was reading at the other girl, sitting across from her at the lunch table. What on earth had possessed her to eat lunch with Sara, who was definitely the most... weaboo-ish person in the entire school- nay, the entire COUNTRY.

Oh right. She needed money to pay for her club's field trip activity, and the upperclassmen had offered to pay if she promised to sit the entire lunch period with Super annoying little miss Sara over here, who even the officers of the anime and manga club couldn't stand being around.

Amber buried her face behind her book and heard snickers from the next table over. She cast an angry glare at the upper classmen who promised to pay her the five dollars, one dollar from each of them, since she'd forgotten her money at home, and needed it to pay for her admission to the Japanese art exhibition field trip thing.

Crap. This so wasn't worth it.

"Come oooooon Amber-chan!" She cringed when she heard her name becoming more mutilated. "Your cell phone charm is just soooo super KAWAII! I WANNA SEE ONEGASHIMASU DESU NE~"

Ugh. Definitely not worth five dollars. I tried to distract myself with the story, and I kept my eyes focused on the page.

The deal was that I only needed to sit here. Not to talk or make contact. I kept myself in a tight little bubble, and tried to focus on stories of a dark elf fleeing his homeland as best I could.

Then I sensed her pressence at my side. I ignored her.

She poked me. I continued to ignore her.

"Ne~ you're squishy, you know that?" I was steaming. I wanted to reach out and rip the stupidly razor-cut styled blonde hair under the bubble gum pink wig she was wearing and listen to her scream.

...I acknowledged I probably had issues for even thinking about that... but I still ignored her.

"NE, AMBARU-NEE-CHAN--"

"WHAT?!" I snapped. I heard the giggles from the next table over, but kept my eyes locked on hers. She looked taken aback, as if MY behavior had made no sense. I grabbed my cell phone out of her hands that she'd just lifted from my pocket, and shoved it into my bag, hiding away the Doraemon charm that I'd just bought and attached the week before.

"Ne, Ambaru, why are you so sad-ish?" she asked. I looked back at her, dumbstruck; was she REALLY that thick headed? I shook my head.

The bell rang, thank god. I won. Time for calculus. I grabbed my stuff and scrambled away as best I could, never once looking back at that freaky annoying girl.
"100 Themes, 1000 Minutes"

39. Kawaii

. . . . . . . . . .

This is based off the free write exercises my teacher has us do in fiction class.

I'm going to write 100 different introductions to 100 different stories based on 100 different predetermined themes, giving myself 10 minutes per theme. Thus, 1000 minutes of writing.

Flash fiction, short stories, short series... who knows what they'll end up as?

Rules:
1. Must use this list: [link]
2. Themes do not necessarily need to be done in order, but they must not be repeated.
3. During the entire ten minutes one cannot stop typing. Even if it doesn’t make sense, or you start typing the same word over and over, or if you get off track; the point is to just keep going.
4. No planning ahead. Ever. What is written must be what is currently in your head.
5. No going back to edit anything beyond the words in the sentence you’re currently on.
6. At the end of the ten minutes, you MUST stop.
7. The first time you post, you MUST post the raw, unedited version.
8. Afterwards, you may edit and add and such, but only after the first draft is posted and you can get feedback.
9. Do not apologize for your writing. No matter how terrible you think your draft is. Do no defend your writing, post comments on your writing, or say anything to sway the reader's opinion. Take it all in stride.
10. Repeat exercise until satisfied.
